[This is a poll so could all bottle-feeding moms answer] Which formula do you use?

Baby Formula Differences
There aren’t really any convincing studies that prove that one formula is better than another, so you kind of have to go by what the formula companies say about their ‘recipes’ and see what works for you.

Among the major brands of formula:

Enfamil Lipil is one of the latest formulas from Mead Johnson, which ‘has been dedicated to patterning infant formula after the nutritional composition of breast milk.’ It provides a ‘whey-to-casein ratio of 60:40. Just like breast milk’ and they claim that ‘no other formula is closer to breast milk than Enfamil LIPIL.’

Nestle Good Start Supreme contains 100% whey, partially hydrolyzed ‘comfort proteins’ that are supposed to be easier to digest. It is also supposed to have a faster gastric emptying time, which may help children with reflux, and promote soft stools, which may help infants who are constipated. Instead of creating a formula that is like breastmilk in composition, they seem to be trying to make a formula that behaves like breastmilk.

Similac Advance is made without palm olein oil, which they claim helps their formula promote increased calcium absorption and greater bone mineralization. Similac Advance also contains ‘special breast milk nutrients called nucleotides’ that are supposed ‘to help support the development of a baby’s immune system,’ however, even their website says that ‘whether this development provides immune protection like breast milk has not been shown.’ And all formulas contain nucleotides.

Store Brand Formula, like from Albertsons (Baby Basics), Target (Healthy Baby), and Wal-mart (Parent’s Choice), are made by Wyeth Nutrition and are based on the old SMA formula. They provide a ‘nutritionally complete, sensibly priced formula option’ for parents.

Question about my daughter and milk based formula?

My daughter is now 8 months old, and up until Dec. 27th she was fed Parents Choice Immune Support formula (milk based, prebiotics added) She did great with this until Christmas Eve, when she started getting HORRIBLE diahrreah. We decided to take her off the formula for a day and just give her baby food, oatmeal and pedialyte, which ended the diahrreah. So she was switched to a soy formula which helped but also made her spit up every time she ate. So, we were told to put her on a lactose free milk based formula. She doesnt get diahrreah, but she gets horrible gas pains and severe constipation. I dont think shes allergic to milk protein because she doesnt get rashes or have any trouble breathing or anything, but I really think she cannot digest milk properly. Has anyone elses baby been through this and what did you have to do? Her doctor told us to decide for ourselves which formula is better for her, so im just seeking advice. Thanks!
Also… is it true that soy formula messes up baby’s reproductive system or anything like that?

What formula is best?..?

I currently exclusively breast feed. But my production is low for how much he eats. He is two months old. I have to start supplementing. I know formula with choline and DHA and ARA ingredients are best as they are found in breast milk. Just wanting to know what others use as supplements or who just use formula. I actually am really upset I have to use a supplement I wanted to only breast feed but doctor said I need to if he is eating that much and my production isn’t keeping up. Going to a lactation consultant tomorrow as well this only started over the weekend for me. I been using an immune support formula for the weekend that has the essentials I named above as well as iron. I only have to use formula it seems as a supplement in late afternoons and evenings as the breast milk has run out and not producing fast enough for him by those times. I have a pump and tried that as well to get production going its still the same. not better or worse. Just curious what others do for formula or any similiar situations.

Why do Mothers/parents choose to formula feed?

I know this is going to offend a lot of people, but I am honestly just trying to understand why birth Mother/parents willingly choose formula over breastfeeding. I know many women and babies cannot breastfeed, and that is not what I am talking about here. I mean women who make milk when their babies are born, and choose to buy artificial milk and stick a plastic nipple in their baby’s mouth, instead of bringing baby to the breast to drink the special-made super duper healthy immune-boosting milk that our bodies make for our babies. Please enlighten me–it just seems so unbelievable that SO many people make this choice. AGAIN, I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE WHO CANNOT BREASTFEED, I AM TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE WHO CAN BUT CHOOSE NOT TO.

can formula cause cancer in children?

I just saw on another site where someone posted that formula causes cancer. Now I know that breast fed babies, in studies, have shown less incidence of childhood cancer due to the breast milk boosting immune system and what not. But is there any evidence that formula itself actually causes childhood cancer? The site i saw it on was run ragged with women who didnt even seem to think it was ok to pump and bottle feed breast milk, ONLY feed right from the breast. So I dont know if they are just over zealous or making stuff up or what.
